Rules
According to redhatsociety.com, there are no officials rules for members
of the Red Hat Society. However, there are some rather strong suggestions
in keeping with the spirit and purpose of the (dis)organization.
Women 50 and older should wear a red hat and clashing purple ensemble at
all meetings, especially in public. **
Women younger than 50 are permitted to join, but as proper "ladies
in waiting," they should wear pink hats and lavender outfits. **
The Exalted Queen Mother, founder Sue Ellen Cooper, asks that members invite
friends to participate in meetings and outings.
Members should plan teas, lunches and other get-togethers where Red Hatters
can wear regalia in full public view.
Most importantly, members should enjoy themselves. There is fun after 50,
and before.
Hat shopping
Where to find red hats, purple finery and other regalia:
Queen mothers, Princess daughters and other Red Hatters suggest antique
stores, thrift and consignment shops, Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
Extra-crafty Hatters could try painting or dying straw hats. Hats and other
merchandise also are available at the Red Hat Society's Web site.
** The "official colors" are red hats and purple outfits and pink
hats and lavender outfits, but we like women to be comfortable in whatever
their colors might be! However, for our Birthday Celebration & our Holiday Brunch we do wear the "official colors" and for fun at other events.
